Inspiring Children to Love, Laugh, Learn and Live Life in all Its Fullness (John 10:10)

Year 3- Mrs Lumb and Mrs Heald

This year, every class are named after a class champion. Throughout the Year the children will learn about their class champion and deliver a special Collective Worship all about what makes them special. By the end of the year the aim is that all of our children know about 6 diverse and amazing champions who make a difference to our world.

Year Three’s class champion for 2023-2024 is Marcus Rashford.

Marcus Rashford is a star footballer for Manchester United and England. But he is also famous for campaigning to keep free school meals through the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns in 2020-2021.

As schools closed with the first lockdown, his first thought was 'What are the children going to eat?' So he worked with the charity Fareshare, that distributes food to those in most need in the UK. He also set up the Child Food Poverty Task Force to keep everyone talking about child hunger in the UK. He used his star influence via Twitter to get more businesses and people to donate money and when the government thought about stopping free school meals, he changed their mind. With his hard work, millions of meals were distributed to families to help them cope with the pandemic.

Growing up, Marcus was one of five children with only his mum and often had to rely on food banks and free school meals. He and his family grew up in a community that looked after each other with acts of kindness. When he became a footballer, he became part of a team and another community within the football academy. So when the pandemic hit, he decided that he should give something back to the community to help others. He has since also written children's books about breakfast club adventures as well as how to become your own champion. This is why we have chosen him for our Year 3 Class champion this year.
