Inspiring Children to Love, Laugh, Learn and Live Life in all Its Fullness (John 10:10)

Year 1- Mrs Burkinshaw

This year, every class are named after a class champion. Throughout the Year the children will learn about their class champion and deliver a special Collective Worship all about what makes them special. By the end of the year the aim is that all of our children know about 6 diverse and amazing champions who make a difference to our world.

Year One’s class champion for 2023-2024 is Dolly Parton.

Dolly Parton is an inspirational person for many reasons.  She is one of 12 children who grew up in poverty in Tennessee.  She overcame deprivation through determination and effort to become one of the world’s most successful country singers and songwriters.  Not only is she a successful singer, she embodies our school’s Christian values through her charity work.  Dolly’s Imagination Library sends a book every month to children from deprived backgrounds from their birth to when they start school, donating over 200,000,000 books since it began.   Her Dollywood Foundation has created jobs and opportunities for many people in a deprived area of Tennessee where she grew up.  Dolly made donations and organised a fundraising event in 2016 to support victims of the Smoky Mountains Wildfires. She also donated money during the Covid pandemic to enable research for the development of a vaccine.  She then encouraged those people who were reluctant to have their Covid vaccine.  In a world where many think only of themselves we would like everyone to be a bit more Dolly.
